FAQ

I have heard that the chairman of Shincheonji is supposed to be the returned Jesus. Is that true?

No. The chairman has never called himself the returned Jesus, nor does anyone in Shincheonji believe this. This is to be understood in the same way as John the Baptist, who came in the spirit of Elijah about 2,000 years ago, but was not Elijah himself. Jesus said that he and the Father are one, since God was with him (John 10:30). But he did not allow people to call him God. In the same way, the chairman of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus is the shepherd whom Jesus promised to send (Rev 22:16). But he himself is not and cannot be Jesus. For this reason, all members of Shincheonji Church of Jesus, including the chairman, pray in the name of Jesus.

Where does the term ‘chairman’ come from?

The term ‘chairman’ refers to a person who leads an assembly. According to Hebrews 12:22-24, Shincheonji refers to the church of the firstborn, a festive assembly. The chairman leads this church as Jesus' advocate.
